We present the exact solution to a one-dimensional multicomponent quantum lattice model interacting by an exchange operator which falls off as the inverse-sinh-square of the distance. This interaction contains a variable range as a parameter, and can thus interpolate between the known solutions for the nearest-neighbor chain, and the inverse-square chain. The energy, susceptibility, charge stiffness and the dispersion relations for low-lying excitations are explicitly calculated for the...

I give an introduction to the theory of preasymptotic effects based on the systematic OPE/HQET expansion in $1/m_Q$ where $m_Q$ is the heavy quark mass. The general idea is explained in two most instructive examples, with an emphasis on pedagogical aspects. Some important results of the last year are reviewed. In discussing the issue of the quark-hadron duality, one of the basic ingredients of the theory, I prove that the operator product expansion {\em per se} is an asymptotic expansion. The...

Research is described on the fluid dynamic behavior of high performance diffusers for centrifugal compressors, with particular application to small gas turbine engine applications. Using a unique swirl generator, experiments have been carried out to define the performance and stall onset behavior of a modern discrete passage diffuser as a function of inlet conditions. Two diffusers were examined, one with 30 passages and one with 38 passages. Inlet blockage and axial asymmetry were varied over...

We study the interaction between a $p$-brane and $BF$ system constituted by a $(p+1)$-form and a $n-(p+2)$-form B with a metric independent action on a manifold $M^n$. We identify the allowed $(p+1)$-world manifolds sweeped by the $p$-brane as those restricted by the topological condition of being the boundaries of chains in $M^n$. We find the general solutions of the equation of motion for the field configurations. The solutions for the $B$ field are closely related to the external field...

This paper extends an earlier high-temperature lattice calculation of the renormalized Green's functions of a $D$-dimensional Euclidean scalar quantum field theory in the Ising limit. The previous calculation included all graphs through sixth order. Here, we present the results of an eleventh-order calculation. The extrapolation to the continuum limit in the previous calculation was rather clumsy and did not appear to converge when $D>2$. Here, we present an improved extrapolation which...

Degraded text recognition is a difficult task. Given a noisy text image, a word recognizer can be applied to generate several candidates for each word image. High-level knowledge sources can then be used to select a decision from the candidate set for each word image. In this paper, we propose that visual inter-word constraints can be used to facilitate candidate selection. Visual inter-word constraints provide a way to link word images inside the text page, and to interpret them systematically.

Effective Lagrangian including technimesons is constructed for a realistic one-family Technicolor model without exact custodial symmetry. Tree level contribution to oblique correction parameters $S$ and $U$ due to spin 1 technimesons are computed with the effective Lagrangian. An isospin breaking term which is associated with technilepton vector mesons gives a negative contribution to the electroweak radiative correction parameter $S$ due to mixing between $I=0$ and $I=1$ vector mesons. $U$...

We describe a canonical covariant formulation of the Green-Schwarz Superstring which allows the construction of a new covariant action canonically equivalent to the Green-Schwarz action but subjected only to first class constraints. From this action the correct BRST operator for the quantization of the Green-Schwarz Superstring may be constructed. Also the gauge fixed action in the Light-Cone gauge may be reobtained. The action presented in this letter generalizes in a non-trivial form the...

Starting from a detailed analysis of the structure of pathspaces of the ${\cal A}$-fusion graphs and the corresponding irreducible Virasoro algebra quotients $V(c,h)$ for the ($2,q$ odd) models, we introduce the notion of an admissible pathspace representation. The pathspaces ${\cal P_A}$ over the ${\cal A}$-Graphs are isomorphic to the pathspaces over Coxeter $A$-graphs that appear in FB models. We give explicit construction algorithms for admissible representations. From the finitedimensional...

The expected trilepton signals from $p \bar p \to \chi^\pm_1\chi^0_2 \to (\chi^0_1\ell^\pm\nu) (\chi^0_1\ell'^+\ell'^-) $ will be converted into hadronically quiet multilepton signals, if the two final $\chi^0_1$ have leptonic $R$-parity-violating (RPV) decays $\chi^0_1 \to \ell \ell' \nu$. We make illustrative calculations of the acceptance for these spectacular RPV signals, and point out that distinctive multilepton signals are possible even when the $R$-conserving trilepton signals are...

We calculate in a linear response the admittance of a quantum dot out of equilibrium. The interaction between two electrons with opposite spins simultaneously residing on the resonant level is modeled by an Anderson Hamiltonian. The electron correlations lead to the appearence of a new feature in the frequency dependence of the conductance. Numerical algorithms are developed for the centroid molecular dynamics (centroid MD) method to calculate dynamical time correlation functions for general many-body quantum systems. Approaches based on the normal mode path integral molecular dynamics and staging path integral Monte Carlo methods are described to carry out a direct calculation of the force on the centroid variables in the centroid MD algorithm. A more efficient, but approximate, scheme to compute the centroid force is devised...

The elements of the wide class of quantum universal enveloping algebras are prooved to be Hopf algebras $H$ with spectrum $Q(H)$ in the category of groups. Such quantum algebras are quantum groups for simply connected solvable Lie groups $P(H)$. This provides utilities for a new algorithm of constructing quantum algebras especially useful for nonsemisimple ones. The quantization procedure can be carried out over an arbitrary field. The properties of the algorithm are demonstrated on examples.

Hard thermal loops play a central role in the theory of long wavelength excitations of a quark-gluon plasma. We show in this paper how our recent derivation of their generating functional from the Dyson-Schwinger equations sheds light on their semi-classical nature and their remarkable gauge structure. In particular, we show that our kinetic equations can be written in terms of auxiliary gauge fields with zero curvature. Remarkably, the latter property determines entirely the dynamics in the...

For a certain class of Lie bialgebras $(A,A^*)$ the corresponding quantum universal enveloping algebras $U_q(A)$ are prooved to be equivalent to quantum groups Fun$_q(F^*)$, $F^*$ being the factor group for the dual group $G^*$. This property can be used to simplify the process of quantization. The described class appears to be wide enough to contain all the standard quantizations of infinite series. The properties of the groups $F^*$ are explicitly demonstrated for the standard deformations...

We discuss the possibility of testing the principle of equivalence with solar neutrinos. If there exists a violation of the equivalence principle quarks and leptons with different flavors may not universally couple with gravity. The method we discuss employs a quantum mechanical phenomenon of neutrino oscillation to probe into the non-universality of the gravitational couplings of neutrinos. We develop an appropriate formalism to deal with neutrino propagation under the weak gravitational...

Classical and modern military theorists make the commander the central point for leadership and vision. The art of command, leadership, and generalship have long been subject to review and scrutiny. This has taken on additional emphasis with the publication of U.S. Army Field Manual (FM) 100-5, Operations, in 1993. FM 100-5 presented a discussion...

The well-known geometric approach to field theory is based on description of classical fields as sections of fibred manifolds, e.g. bundles with a structure group in gauge theory. In this approach, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms including the multiomentum Hamiltonian formalism are phrased in terms of jet manifolds. Then, configuration and phase spaces of fields are finite-dimensional. Though the jet manifolds have been widely used for theory of differential operators, the calculus of...

By parameterizing the t-j model we present a new electron correlation model with one free parameter for high-temperature superconductivity. This model is of $SU_{q}(1,2)$ symmetry. The energy spectrums are shown to be modulated by the free parameter in the model. The solution and symmetric structures of the Hilbert space, as well as the Bethe ansatz approach are discussed for special cases.

{\it If gravity is a metric field by Einstein, it is a Higgs field.} Gravitation theory meets spontaneous symmetry breaking in accordance with the Equivalence Principle reformulated in the spirit of Klein-Chern geometries of invariants. In gravitation theory, the structure group of the principal linear frame bundle $LX$ over a world manifold $X^4$ is reducible to the connected Lorentz group $SO(3,1)$. The physical underlying reason of this reduction is Dirac fermion matter possessing only exact...
